What's New at Wailea

Greener than ever

From non-diesel golf carts to computer-monitored brackish water systems, Wailea Golf Club is “green” in more ways than one. In addition to its recycling program for plastic waste, Wailea’s award-winning pro shops have expanded its selection of golf and resort products including eco-friendly items made from bamboo and other renewable fibers. The newest addition is a 100% Earth-friendly golf ball made entirely from recycled materials.

Art on the Green showcases Maui artists at Wailea Golf Club (August 2008)

New art program open three times weekly at Wailea’s Gold & Emerald Clubhouse

The Wailea Golf Club has ratcheted its visual appeal to a new height with a new program showcasing Maui artists.

Available three times a week in the Wailea Gold & Emerald Clubhouse lobby, “Art on the Green” showcases original works by more than 30 Maui artists, including paintings, photographs, ceramics, sculptures, glass, basketry, jewelry and silk art.

“[The Wailea Golf Clubhouse] is a wonderful environment – it’s bright, airy, naturally lit and art displays beautifully here,” said Art on the Green organizer Lucia Henrich.  “We’ve been allowed to turn this lovely area into a gallery where we can display large pieces of art on the walls and highlight the high-caliber work of our local artists.”

Participating artists rotate on a daily basis.  On any given day, five are on site to talk with guests and sell their original creations.  Often, they can be seen working on their next piece.

“By rotating the featured artists and the artwork itself, Art on the Green keeps things fresh and serendipitous for the folks who come by the clubhouse frequently,” Henrich said.  “But what’s common to all of our participating artists is that they are all from Maui, and they all produce art that is unique, of high quality and distinctive.  Our artists are very dedicated to their work and always strive to perfect their technique.  I’m very proud of that.”

Art on the Green takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wailea Golf Club’s Gold & Emerald Clubhouse. Complimentary parking is available at the golf clubhouse parking lot.  Admission to the art program is free and open to the public.  The adjacent SeaWatch Restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
